We are the Save Temple Cowley Pools Campaign, now into our 7th year of campaigning, set up to represent the views of the huge number of council taxpayers who opposed Oxford City Council's decision to close Temple Cowley Pools and Fitness Centre (and sauna, exercise classes and diving pool) and Blackbird Leys Swimming Pool, supposedly "replacing" them with a single swimming pool, only 25m x 8 lane, outside the ring road and adjacent to Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre.
We have no issue with Blackbird Leys getting a new pool, but do not believe that the council should set local communities against each other by saying that to achieve this then Temple Cowley Pools must close.
And yet the Council, a Labour administration, is ignoring what their voters want, making a political decision in 2009 to close the centre. They have not made their case, and have never been interested in making their case because we keep pointing out the many flaws in their arguments, and were determined to force their plan through - why would a Labour administration want to do this? We have no idea, and they have always refused to talk to us - contact them yourselves and see what they say, then please let us know on firstname.lastname@example.org.
... Council exposed! ...
